Kahurangi National Park

Created in 1996, Kahurangi is one of New Zealand's newest and the second largest national park. It's located in the northwest corner of New Zealand's South Island.

  • Number of tent sites - 25

The drive to the campsite beside a historic goldfield is scenic. Nearby activities include caving, gold fossicking, picnicking, hunting and walking. Take repellant for ferocious sand flies.

Notes

  • Gravel access. The Dart River ford crossing can be impassable after heavy rain.
  • Walking access via swing bridge.
  • Road not suitable for motor-homes or caravans.
  • Fires are not permitted at any time.

Turn off SH 61 at Tapawera. Follow Rd to Bushend Rd then Wangapeka River Rd to end.
