Syme Hut can't be booked - the hut operates on a first come, first served basis.

Syme Hut with the peak of Mt Taranaki behind

Perched on the top of Fanthams Peak high on the slopes of Mt Taranaki, Syme Hut is arguably Egmont National Park's best overnight spot. On fine days you can enjoy spectacular views of the Taranaki region followed by stunning sunsets.

Facilities and services

The hut has an outside toilet and cold running water (tank supply from rainwater). There is no heating.

You need to bring:

• Sleeping bag
• Food and drink
• Cooking stove and cooking utensils
• Clothing, tramping gear, toiletries
• Fire lighters and paper to get the fire going
• Toilet paper
• Hut tickets

Tracks and walks

This hut is situated at 1,940 m on Fanthams Peak. During winter conditions, you will require alpine climbing experience and suitable equipment to reach this hut. Please check with the North Egmont Visitor Centre for current conditions.
