The walk to Aspiring Hut and beyond gives great views up and down the West Matukituki Valley. It leads onto French Ridge and Liverpool Hut tracks.
The track enters the bush near Aspiring Hut, emerges onto an open terrace leading to Shovel Flat and continues from there to Pearl Flat.
The track starts immediately behind Aspiring Hut and climbs steadily through mixed beech forest to become a route. It is an alpine crossing not to be attempted in adverse weather.
NZ Alpine Club hut.
This hut works on a 'first come first served' basis and cannot be booked. Having a hut ticket does not guarantee a bunk, we recommend you consider carrying a sleep mat in the event that no bunks are available.
