The Hurunui Hut is in the south of the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park about 2.5 hours from Kaimai Summit, along the North South Track. A marked and signposted side track leads a short distance to the hut.

This is a multi-day tramp using rugged, unmarked routes. Trampers will need to camp in addition to staying in huts.
Explore the old Leyland O'Brien tramline besides the headwaters of the Ngamuwahine River.
This walk follows a branch of the tramline through the bush to the North South track, and returns along a separate tramline branch back to the road.
Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park has a number of historic mining and kauri logging sites within its boundaries. The park also features several popular tramping tracks.
