Backcountry Hut Passes, valid for 6 or 12 months, are available for use at most Serviced and Standard huts. The Backcountry Hut Pass is $90.00 (12 months), $60 (6 months) for adults (18 and over) and $45.00 (12 months), $30.00 (6 months) for youth (11-17 years). Children 0-10 years old are free.

Note: The Backcountry Hut Pass is not valid at vehicle accessible ‘conservation campsites’.

Discounts

The following organisations are entitled to a 30% discount on the Backcountry Hut Pass (12 month only) in recognition of their positive contributions to conservation and nature based recreation. The Federated Mountain Club, Mountain Safety Council (MSC) and NZ Deerstalkers Association (NZDA). Discounted price is $63.50.

Purchasing tickets and passes

Backcountry Hut Passes, Great Walk Tickets, backcountry hut tickets and serviced alpine hut fees can be ordered by phone, fax, email, post or in person from DOC Visitor and Information Centres nationwide. Hut tickets are also sold by some other retail outlets. There is a list of Wellington retailers.
