Introduction

One of the main entrances to Tararua Forest Park, the campsite is surrounded by open river terraces and regenerating bush.

Highlights

Walk and tramp through an area rich in farming, mining and sawmilling history. The river offers swimming, white water kayaking and trout fishing.

This is the main camping area with 150 sites.

The campsite is closed during winter from Easter to Labour Weekend.

Black Gate campsite

This is a smaller camping area with 20 sites, located 500 m before Schoolhouse Flat.

The campsite is open all year round.

Getting there

1 km south of Otaki, turn into Otaki Gorge Rd. Campsite is 19 km east of Otaki township. Narrow gravel access with one stream ford.

Fees
