A basic campsite located on Mokai Road, near Taihape. Camping is available in a large grassy clearing within Makino Scenic Reserve, opposite Mokai Gravity Canyon.

About this campsite

Toilets and running water for hand-washing are available. The tap water is not suitable for consumption, so campers must bring their own water for drinking and cooking.

There are high cliffs within the reserve, so children must be supervised.

Getting there

Turn off SH1 onto Gorge Road, south of Taihape. Follow the signs to Mokai Gravity Canyon. It is approximately 22 km from the turn-off, on Mokai Road. Makino campground is opposite Gravity Canyon.
