In the hills east of Cambridge are the Te Miro and Te Tapui Scenic Reserves.
Te Tapui Scenic Reserve, which is 2370 ha, is divided into two blocks for hunting. Block A has a track in it and is slightly smaller than Block B. Te Miro Scenic Reserve is 401 ha.
The reserves have low densities of fallow deer. DOC works collaboratively with the New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association Waikato Branch to administer the terms and conditions of hunting in these reserves, to provide an ongoing recreational reserve while balancing recreational values.
Te Miro and Te Tapui hunting blocks are open for balloted hunting from the 1 March until 30 April, then a further restricted hunting season from May until the end of October.

Te Tapui Scenic Reserve temporarily closed to hunting
The Te Tapui Scenic Reserve is closed to hunting from 4 September 2011 while possum and rat control is undertaken in the reserve. Hunting will commence again in March 2012 under the balloted permit system.
