Harakarimata Scenic Reserve is one of the hunting blocks in the Waikato
The more significant reserves contained within the North Waikato hunting area include the Karakariki and Hakarimata scenic reserves and, along the Hapuakohe Range, the Hapuakohe Ecological Area, Matahuru and Mangapiko Valley scenic reserves. Feral goats are in relatively low numbers due to control by DOC and other agencies. Pigs are present in moderate numbers in the Hakarimata and Karakariki scenic reserves and the Hapuakohe reserves. Low numbers of red and fallow deer are present in some of these reserves. Gamebird hunting is popular in this area. The Waikato is typically humid with potential for rapid changes in weather.
