Rumbling Burn hunting block
The Lake Wanaka hunting area comprises some 20 000 hectares in the Craigie, Albert, Minaret and Rumbling Burn western tributaries of the lake, and Matatiaho Conservation Area to the east of the lake.
Species present are red deer, fallow deer, pigs and chamois.
The area is mostly alpine and very cold in winter. It can be hot in summer although the weather is changeable at all times of the year.

A permit is required by anyone using a rifle, bow or dog to hunt on land managed by the Department of Conservation.

Hunters who had applied for 2009/2010 Wanaka area 'Roar' permits were surveyed to look at the efficiency of, and satisfaction with, the current Roar permit system.
