The Lake Wanaka hunting area comprises some 20 000 hectares in the Craigie, Albert, Minaret and Rumbling Burn western tributaries of the lake, and Matatiaho Conservation Area to the east of the lake.

Species present are red deer, fallow deer, pigs and chamois.

The area is mostly alpine and very cold in winter. It can be hot in summer although the weather is changeable at all times of the year.

Location

Western and eastern sides of Lake Wanaka, accessed from West Wanaka Rd, or SH6 between Wanaka and The Neck.
