The Raukumara Ranges
The Gisborne Raukumara region covers an area east from the Motu River to East Cape and south to Gisborne. It includes the rugged and remote Raukumara Forest Park which includes the 40,000ha Raukumara Wilderness Area. There is over 120000 ha of public conservation land within this region. Hunting opportunities within the area include deer, pigs, feral cattle and goats.
The area is characterised by both large tracts of remote rugged forest areas as well as small accessible scenic reserves and conservation areas.

The Raukumara Forest Park is one of the least developed or visited tracts of bush in the North Island. Recreation opportunities include climbing Mount Hikurangi, rafting the Motu River and the mountain biking Otipi Road.
