Mid & South Canterbury area
The Mid and South Canterbury area has over twenty hunting blocks. They cover the region from Waimate in the south, inland to the South Canterbury foothills and north to the head waters of the Rakaia River. New public conservation lands are being added to the network regularly, as an outcome of tenure review.
Open season all year for red deer, chamois and goats.
The Cameron Conservation Area consists of land in the mid to upper reaches of the Cameron River.
This is a 10,000 ha mix of valleys, low hills and high mountain areas, flanked by large overlapping shingle fans.
Season all year for red deer, chamois and tahr.
Season all year for wallaby, goats and pigs. Boundaries not fenced, size 120 hectares.
Approximately 13,000 ha in size, Hakatere Conservation Area is situated in the upper South Ashburton River Basin.
All year season
Season all year. Boundaries not fully fenced, size 1100 hectares.
The Matata Scenic Reserve (103 hectares) and Mount Nimrod Scenic Reserve (108 hectares) are bushed areas, fully fenced off from the surrounding farm lands.
Area is 140 hectares in size and the boundaries are not completely fenced. Hunting is allowed all year with main species being wallaby and the occasional goat, pig and deer.

This block is also known as "Cloudy Peaks".
Mt Haper/Mahaanui is open all season. Red deer, chamois are present in low numbers.

This block is mountain terrain with steep slopes running down to deeply incised gullies. The highest point is Coal Hill at 1617m.
Restricted hunting. Hunting season is from 1 May to 1 October for red deer and pig.
This block covers the fenced area below the repeater on the west side of the Hunter Hills and contains wallaby.
Hunting season all year, for fallow deer, red deer, chamois, thar.
This area sits beside the north branch of the Waihao River, about 20km south west of Waimate and has a reasonable number of wallabies, a few wild goats and the occasional red deer or wild pig.

Covering the upper northern faces of the Two Thumb Range sloping down towards the upper Rangitata catchment.
Open hunting season all year round. Red deer, chamois, tahr and wallaby can be found here.
Hunting here is open season for 11 months of the year, within the fenced area, targeting wallaby.
This is a large area of some 22,000 ha, situated in the upper North Ashburton River catchment and into the western margins of the Palmer Range, bordering the Lake Stream Valley.
