Auckland region.

The Great Barrier Aotea hunting area is located on Great Barrier Island, 80 km east of Auckland city. Hunting is permitted in two hunting blocks, in the north and centre of the island. The terrain in both hunting blocks is generally hilly, and is predominantly covered in broadleaf coastal forest.

Great Barrier Island can be accessed by air, ferry or private boat.

Pigs are the only wild animal that can be hunted on Great Barrier Island.

The Auckland region has a warm temperate climate, with warm humid summers and mild, wet winters. In the winter, the average daily maximum is around 14.5 C, rising to around 23 C in summer. Rainfall occurs year round, with an average of 1,240 mm per year.

Location

The northern Great Barrier hunting block is made up of the Te Paparahi Conservation Area, a reserve approximately 3000 ha in size. The central hunting block consists of multiple reserves north of Claris in the centre of the island.
