A 2-km walk leads you to Waipu Caves. Once in the limestone caves you’ll find stalagtites, stalagmites and glow worms near the entrance.
Ruakuri Reserve encompasses 114 ha of native bush and limestone formations. The reserve is only 2 km from the Waitomo glowworm cave.
The 2 hour return walk to Onepoto Caves branches off to various caves in the area. The track then descends into a small valley where you’ll find the largest number of caves on the walk.
Mangaone Caves Scenic Reserve is 40 km from Wairoa. The track to the limestone caves is only 20 minutes each way and follows a poled route over farmland.
