They have now joined the other rowi chicks currently on Motuara Island in the Marlborough Sounds. A total of 57 chicks have travelled north this year.

There are still two rowi chicks remaining in Franz Josef with the team at the West Coast Wildlife Centre — making a grand total of 59 rowi hatched this season.

In addition we had 20 Haast tokoeka pass through the pens this year, with most of them heading off to their temporary home at the newly fenced crèche at Orokonui Ecosanctuary. If you happen to be in Dunedin it is well worth a visit.
