This is a serviced 32-bunk hut in the Wellington region. The hut is locked and must be booked in advance to gain access.

This is a popular site so book well in advance.


The hut is locked – refer to your booking confirmation for how to obtain the access code.

It sleeps 32 in 4 bunk rooms with 8 bunks in each of the rooms: Kea, Kiwi, Kokopu and Kapowai. Each bunk room is sole occupancy.

Facilities provided:

  • shared kitchen and living area
  • gas cooking hob, 4 x 2 ring burners
  • pots, pans, crockery and cooking utensils
  • cold tap water
  • wood burner heating 
  • containment toilets
  • candle holders

You need to bring:

  • Sleeping bag and personal equipment
  • Candles, headlamp or torch for lighting
  • Matches or lighter
  • Toilet paper

Fees

The fees are for up to 8 people. 

  • Off-peak (9 February – 25 December): $121 per night
  • Peak (1 December – 08 February): $143 per night

Bookings

Bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2026.

If there is no availability showing online for your dates, the campsite is fully booked. No sites are held for campers turning up on the day without a booking. You can book on the same day until 8 pm, if spaces are available.

Bookings are required all year. Book well in advance - this is a popular hut.

Book Turere Lodge online

A $10 service fee applies to phone and in-person booking. This is a limited service – book online first. An in-person booking is dependent on there being space available.

Turere Lodge is a 2 hr 30 min walk via the Ōrongorongo Track. Then from Turere Bridge at the end of the Ōrongorongo Track, follow the Big Bend Track for a further 30 min (1.2 km) or walk up the river bed. The river route involves multiple river crossings – do not use it when the river is in flood or when there has been lots of rainfall in the area.

If you want to light a fire (eg for cooking) while in the Remutaka Forest Park, visit www.checkitsalright.co.nz. This will tell you the current fire status and if you need a fire permit. At times of high fire danger, there may be a total ban on fires. Please respect any fire restrictions, they keep native wildlife and visitors safe.
