The hut is situated on a flat clearing surrounded by regenerating scrub and horopito. At 730 m altitude, the area is prone to strong winds and high rainfall.
The original standard Forest Service Hut was built in the late 1960s.
Fees
- Adult (18+ years): $15 per night
- Youth (5–17 years): $7.50 per night
- Child/Infant (0–4 years): free
