Tiritiri Matangi Island volunteers
Description: Tiritiri Matangi Island is a conservation success story thanks to the involvement of thousands of volunteers planting trees and the successful transfer of endangered bird species. Tiritiri Matangi is located in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park, to the east of Whangaparaoa Peninsula.
Although the planting programme is now complete, volunteer involvement is still important to support DOC and the Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi in maintaining this island sanctuary. Volunteers assist island rangers with a wide range of tasks from checking water troughs to weeding, beach cleanups and track work. Very little species work is available, but there are many opportunities to see the island's wildlife.
