Pirongia Te Aroara o Kahu Restoration Society
The Society, which grew out of a working party with DOC, was formed in 1998 to restore the native ecosystems of Mt Pirongia.

Planting day at former dump site
A pest control project is being undertaken covering 250 ha on Mt Pirongia, with the aim of increasing native bird populations and ultimately reintroducing kokako to the maunga.
The Society also holds regular Generation Green Days and the Mt Pirongia Art Awards and is currently working on the establishment of an envirocentre in Pirongia, assisting with the re-planting of the Pirongia dump site and looking at trialling non-toxic methods of pest control.
