Kiwi Encounter
Kiwi Encounter at Rainbow Springs operates a captive kiwi breeding programme alongside the BNZ Save the Kiwi Trust "Operation Nest Egg" initiative that aims to boost numbers of Kiwi in the wild. Kiwi Encounter is the only facility of its type in the world that is purpose built and open to the public for guided tours. Promoting advocacy and education for and about the kiwi is one of the aims of Kiwi Encounter.

You can help
Volunteer guides are needed to take groups through the only open to the public kiwi hatchery in New Zealand. You need to be outgoing and eager to learn, have a keen interest in kiwi and an ability to speak in a group. Extra help within the facility and behind the scenes is available at certain times of year (such as feed trays, gardening and husbandry assistance).

Tours are operated daily from 10am to 4pm. We will work around hours that suit our volunteers, or any special projects that we may have on at the time.
