Wild Creations is the Department of Conservation’s Artists in Residence Programme, run in partnership with Creative New Zealand.

The Wild Creations programme offers three six-week residencies annually to artists selected by a panel of representatives from Creative New Zealand and DOC. During a residency, artists will be free to explore the environment and the physical and creative challenges of their location.

The programme provides New Zealand artists with an outstanding opportunity to experience the people, stories and challenges associated with our country’s unique natural and historic heritage.

Wild Creations:

  • provides an opportunity for artists to focus solely on their creative work in a natural setting
  • provides accommodation and resources for artists to stay and work in sites of natural or historical significance
  • encourages emerging and established artists to look more closely at New Zealand’s unique landscapes and species
  • engages the public in the value of conservation through their exposure to contemporary art

Applications for 2010

Applications for 2010 residencies are now closed. Applications for 2011 will open in June 2010.
