How do you get nominated?

Anybody can be nominated for membership of a conservation board.

You can be nominated by a friend, an organisation, trust, committee, club, or by an iwi, hapu or runanga, or you can nominate yourself.

If you wish to nominate someone else you need to check first that that person is interested and has the time to undertake the role.

Please fill in the nomination form carefully. If you are selected this information will be drawn upon when seeking the endorsement of Cabinet to your appointment. Additional papers (including letters of support), may be added but these should be kept to a minimum.

You can be nominated for more than one board but a separate nomination form will need to be completed for each board. However, you will not be appointed to more than one board.

Conservation Board Vacancies

When making appointments to each board, the Minister will have regard to the particular features of land administered by the Department of Conservation within a Board's area and the interests of nature conservation, natural earth and marine sciences, recreation, tourism and the local community including the tangata whenua of the area.

Generally, appointments will be for a three year term.
