Wellington Hawke's Bay Conservation Board members
Members of the board are appointed for varying terms of up to three years by the Minister of Conservation, after consultation with the New Zealand Conservation Authority and Minister of Maori Affairs.
Nominations for Board membership are put forward by a wide range of organisations and individuals after the Minister has called for nominations under the provisions of the Conservation Act 1987.
Kevin Trerise (Chair) Hawke's Bay
Kevin Trerise is a self employed business coach and personal mentor with a background in the NZ Fire Service. He brings strong environmental sustainability knowledge to the board from extensive work in the Hawke's Bay region engaging on environmental, sustainability and conservation matters. Term expires 30 June 2014.
Don Adams, Wairarapa
Don Adams is a trustee of the Game and Forest Foundation Trust and past president of the New Zealand chapter of Safari Club International. He provides a valuable perspective for local and national conservation issues. Term expires 30 June 2013.
Papara (Caroline) Carroll, Hawke's Bay
Papara Carroll is a self-employed director for distance learning programmes with a background in iwi and conservation community development. She will bring governance experience and knowledge of local community, particularly in iwi matters to the board. Ms Carroll is affiliated with Ngati Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine, Ngapuhi, Ngati Raukawa iwi. Term expires 30 June 2013.
Garth Eyles, Hawke's Bay
Garth Eyles is a scientist with extensive experience in sustainable land management, native bush protection, wetlands rehabilitation and sand dunes protection. He offers a detailed understanding of the sustainable and natural resources of Hawke's Bay. Term expires 30 June 2013.
Malcolm Guy, Kapiti Coast
Malcolm Guy has a long history as a farmer with local government and regional council experience. He is a member on a number of committees with farming and dairying orientation and incorporates a conservation perspective in his endeavours. Term expires 30 June 2013.
John Hancock, Wairarapa
John Hancock is a Wairarapa hill country sheep and beef farmer with a long history of conservation and environmental work. He brings practical knowledge of both rural matters and of the entire Wellington Hawke's Bay Conservancy area. Term expires 30 June 2012.
Anne Lawrence, Palmerston North
Anne Lawrence has a background in educational development and conservation community involvement. She is a member of LandSAR (Search and Rescue) and is the current president of the Palmerston North Tramping and Mountaineering Club. She brings hands-on conservation recreation experience to the board. Term expires 30 June 2013.
Dr Robin (Rob) McColl, Wellington
Robin McColl has a scientific background, experience working with government policy and administration processes and brings strong freshwater ecology and analytical skills to the board. Term expires 30 June 2012.
Dr Nicola (Nicky) Nelson (Deputy Chair), Wellington
Nicola Nelson is a lecturer in Conservation Biology at Victoria University of Wellington, is a member of several environmental organisations, and brings strong scientific knowledge to the board. Term expires 30 June 2012.
Dr Jonathan Procter, Palmerston North
Dr Jonathan Procter is a researcher in Earth Science at Massey University specialising in natural hazards and working with Iwi to develop methods to incorporate Matauranga Maori into environmental management. He has past experience on conservation boards and is currently actively involved in environmental projects. Term expires 30 June 2014.
Richard Steedman, Mōkai Pātea (Taihape/ Rangitīkei)
Richard Steedman has affiliations to nga Iwi of Mōkai Pātea and has considerable experience working with various boards, councils and trusts. His background is in iwi, hapu and whanau development with a strong interest in conservation and has for some years been actively developing iwi-based conservation projects. Term expires 30 June 2014.
