For around 20 years, Jan Finlayson has taught English at adult, secondary and primary levels in schools and privately. She has also been a partner in a family farm.

Jan is involved in a variety of groups that are connected by the theme of conservation, e.g. the Orari River Protection Group and its blue duck/whio restoration project, the New Zealand Alpine Club, World Wildlife Fund for Nature, the local farming community, board experience (five years for Carew Peel Forest and Geraldine high schools).

Jan has an interest in the developing links between conservation and education, e.g. as encouraged by the new New Zealand curriculum and the Enviroschools programme.

Jan is an involved supporter of Mayfield Cubs and Scouts. She is also a member of the management committee for Geraldine School's adult and community education.

Her recreation interests are tramping, climbing and skiing.

Term

Jan is on her second term with the board, which expires in 2014.
