Farewell Spit lighthouse keepers house maintenance

The Farewell Spit lighthouse keepers houses are in Farewell Spit Nature Reserve at the end of 25km long Farewell Spit. The keepers houses are historic buildings in a harsh environment and are in need of frequent maintenance work. The work involved in this trip is to prepare and paint a section of exterior wall. There will be opportunities to experience the wildlife and habitats and isolation at the end of Farewell Spit.

Dates: 8 - 12 February 2010.

Where: Farewell Spit, Golden Bay.

Number of volunteers required: Six - it is probable that this will be a popular activity. Allocation of the six positions will be done in the order applications and contributions are received from suitable applicants.

Fitness/skills: Medium fitness required. You will be preparing wood for painting and painting.

Training: No training required.

Accommodation: Accomodation is in the No. 1 lighthouse keepers house; shower, cooking facilities, etc.

What to bring: Gear list two

Food: Will be provided.

Pickup/transport: 10am on 8 February 2009, at Puponga, Triangle Flat carpark (or at Takaka Area Office at 9am).

Cost: Contribution towards food and costs incurred - $60 per person.

Bookings: Bookings essential.
