Arbor Day

Arbor Day 5 June 2010

Arbor Day is a day when we encourage people to plant and care for trees. Arbor Day originated in Nebraska, United States in 1872 but is celebrated by countries all over the world.

DOC’s Arbor Day celebrations focus on planting native trees to restore habitats that have been damaged by humans, pests and weeds.

Our native plants and trees are part of our country’s character. They provide food and shelter for the wildlife that you’ll only find in New Zealand. Arbor Day reminds us that we can all help to protect our native forests and wildlife, for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.
