What's the course about?

The Introduction to Natural Heritage provides a broad understanding of the fundamentals of biodiversity and DOC's management approach. For anyone who works in conservation this understanding is vital.

The course is made up of three modules, each takes 2 hrs to complete:

  • Module 1 - clarifies terms and concepts
  • Module 2 - explains why New Zealand is unique and why its biodiversity is under threat
  • Module 3 - describes the different management principles and techniques used in New Zealand.

By the end of the course, you will know about key biodiversity principles, ecological processes and management processes.

Who is it for?

Anyone who works or wants to work or volunteer in conservation, including:

  • Regional Council staff
  • Volunteers
  • Members of community groups/Trusts/funding recipients

How much does it cost?

This course is free.

Where is the course held?

Introduction to Natural Heritage is an online course. You can do this course from your computer right now.

Do I need to register?

If you are planning to attend a DOC field based course you should register for the online course. This will help us to know if you have completed the required prerequisite. If you don't ever plan to attend a DOC field based course, you don't need to register your details.
