Training venues

Field based courses are held in each of the department's three training venues: Thames, Nelson and Glenorchy. Historic Heritage courses are held at a variety of different venues around the country.

Thames:

Kauaeranga Valley Visitor Centre
Kauearanga Valley
Thames, Waikato.

Directions to venue:
From the Ngati Maru Highway 25, turn right into Banks St. Turn right into Parawai Rd, it becomes Kauaeranga Valley Rd. Continue until along Kauaeranga Valley Rd, until the road end and visitor centre. This is about 15 - 20 mins drive. Attached to the visitor centre is the training room.

Nelson:

The Brook

Directions to venue from Nelson:

  1. Head east on Halifax St toward Halstead St 250 m.
  2. Turn right at Collingwood St 600 m.
  3. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Nile St 400 m.
  4. Turn right at Tasman St 450 m.
  5. Take the 2nd left onto Brook St, destination will be on the left, opposite Hockey Place.

Glenorchy:

Glenorchy Hall

Directions to venue:
Follow the Glenorchy Queenstown Rd and it becomes Oban Street in Glenorchy. Turn left into Mulls Street. The Glenorchy Hall is right next door to the Glenorchy Cafe.

Accommodation and meals at field venues

A range of accommodation types are available near the venues. This ranges from camp grounds, backpackers to motels. In addition to this a range of meal types and groceries are able to be purchased. Morning and afternoon tea and dinner are provided on the course.
