Blowhole, Punakaiki

Map of New Zealand showing the West Coast region of the South Island.

The little settlement of Punakaiki is located about 40 minutes drive north of Greymouth and 50 minutes south of Westport.

The area is famous for the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes - curious limestone formations formed 30 million years ago.

Punakaiki is an ideal place for a school camp or day trip as there are many things to do and study in a small area. If your group is after a more challenging exercise, Punakaiki is also close to the start of several over night tramps.
