Ancient totara tree

Map of New Zealand showing Waikato region.

Pureora Forest Park straddles the Hauhungaroa and Rangitoto Ranges between Lake Taupo and Te Kuiti. It is a hidden wonderland of tall trees, clear rivers and rare wildlife.

You can visit a tower, which gives wonderful views of a forest canopy, a buried forest, the Treetops protest site, the largest recorded totara tree in New Zealand, and a vintage steam hauler and tractor.

Students can study the North Island robin, walk to the summit of Mt Pureora and look at how to 'track' rats.
