Sulphur Bay

Map of New Zealand showing the Bay of Plenty region.

Sulphur Bay is situated in the south-eastern corner of Lake Rotorua, which is volcanically formed lake. The bay stretches from Motutara Point across to Ngapuna.

Sulphur Bay is geothermally active and supports many birds and specialised plants. It is an easy walking distance from Rotorua city. You could tie in a visit to the Rotorua Museum of Art and History or any of the other District Council facilities in the area.

This teaching resource is designed to give you ideas for planning exciting and experiential learning activities outside the classroom at Sulphur Bay.
