Kristin School's native animals project
Students from Kristin School in Albany, Auckland have recently been studying the different environments of animals in New Zealand in art class. Students were asked to choose an animal and draw it in its natural habitat.
Four students shared their drawings with DOC:

"To whom it may concern,
My name is Olivia Just. I am writing this letter because I think the work that DOC does is incredible and deserves to be properly recognised for all the work that they do.
In Kristin Middle School in art class, the year seven students are drawing animals in their natural habitats. We are doing this because we are focusing on why it is important to protect environments. It is important to protect the environments because if you don't you can kill off animals and plants habitats, therefore decreasing the animal and plant numbers. In my picture below I have drawn a frog in its natural habitat.
I understand that there has been a huge decrease in frog numbers over the last ten years. I have also heard that you are trying to figure out why by helping protect their enviroments. I think it is really good that you are trying to get to the bottom of it and save their habitats.
I was wondering if you might like to use my drawing in a campaign or advert of some sort. If you would be interested I could send you a copy of my picture.
It would be great if you would like to use my drawing!
Kind Regards
Olivia J"

Jamie McInnes
"Dear DOC
Hi my name is Jamie McInnes and I am in year 7 and go to Kristin School in Albany, Auckland.
For the last couple of weeks in art, we have been studying about the different environments of animals in New Zealand. I chose the red dear because I go hunting quite a bit with my Dad and Grandpa in Scotland for red deer and also because your organisation inspired me.
I like your website because of how it teaches you to hunt responsibly and safely. I also like how you keep the population of the red deer at a good level so there is not too many and not too little, and also how you keep their environment safe and clean so that the native animals around it also don't get killed by rubbish lying around. I think that your organisation is really good and you help lots of different animals especially the native animals.
I am showing you my support by drawing you a picture. I hope you continue to do a great job.

"Dear D.O.C,
My name is Andrew Court and I am in Year 7 at Kristin school. In art we have been learning about animals and their environments. I chose to draw a frog. I learnt that you look after frogs so I wanted to send you a copy of my artwork.
We have been working on this for a long time so I hope your team likes it. I think it was great how your organisation looks after the animals and to make it so all the animals are safe.
Yours Sincerely,
Andrew Court"

Hannah Philpot's artwork of a sea lion in its natural habitat
Hannah Philpot
"To whom it may concern
My name is Hannah Philpot and I am in year 7 at Kristin School. I really like how you protect the sea lion pups in their natural habitat . It is my responsibility to the sea lion pups that I do not litter the sea or beach as it is important to keep our sea and beach clean. When I see rubbish lying around I pick it up and put it in the bin and I tell others to do the same.
In art we have been learning about artists and how they use the environment to inspire them. To understand this we chose either an animal/bird/insect that inspired us and drew it in its natural habitat. I chose the Sea Lion Pup as my animal. I know DOC helps preserve this species and to help you with this cause, I would like to send you a copy of my picture and perhaps you could use it in a campaign or something like that.
Yours sincerely,
Hannah Philpot"
