15 December 2011 - 15 March 2012

The imaginative possibilities of parks explored

An exhibit of trial interpretation displays, installations and iapps will be on show in Arthur's Pass National Park from mid December, for three months.

Katie Miller project.
Bird ID scavanger hunt by Katie Miller, one of the projects still under development

Six projects will be exhibited, as well as information on the proccess of development, and profiles of the students who have created the projects.

The projects are a result of a partnership between DOC and University of Otago's Centre for Research on National Identity. Through this partnership design students get to move from theoretical study to testing if their ideas work in the real world.

The six projects are:

  • Author's Pass trail - lines of poetry are discovered within the landscape as you walk the Punchbowl Falls Track.
  • Birdcall wall - create your own dawn chorus with a new approach to the standard push-button interactive
  • What's the weather like today? A simple interactive where you can pop a pebble into a display to let others know what you experienced ... and see you were not alone.
  • What bird sings that song? A simple iapp game to you test your skills.
  • What can I do today? An iapp to help you select an activity during your visit based on time, weather, experience and inspiration.
  • Three 'Don't feed the kea' posters with a public survey on which one people like best. View the posters and have your say!
