World Wetlands Day

Wetlands and Tourism is the theme for World Wetlands Day 2012
World Wetlands Day is celebrated on 2 February every year with events and activities to raise awareness of the value and benefit of wetlands.
Wetlands and tourism: World Wetlands Day 2012
Wetlands and their associated wildlife are a key part of the tourism experience in New Zealand.
Wetlands can include natural springs bubbling to the surface, geothermal lakes and pools, underground streams in limestone caves as well as a wide variety of swamps, fens, bogs, lakes, rivers, lagoons and estuaries.
Tourism can have both positive and negative impacts on wetlands - and on the wildlife too!
World Wetlands Day is a time to highlight wetlands as great places to visit, but to also stress the need for care and respect of wetland environments so that people and wildlife can continue to enjoy our wetlands well into the future. Responsible tourism supports wetlands and people is the sub-slogan for World Wetlands Day 2012.
