Kiwi Ranger

Kiwi Ranger is a fun, interactive programme for kids of all ages - from 3 to 103! It helps you to discover the ecology, culture and history of our special places.

Kiwi Ranger is now "live" at seven sites; five national parks and Orokonui Ecosanctuary in Dunedin; the newest site is Denniston Historic Reserve.

How do I become a Kiwi Ranger?

Pick up an activity booklet from the visitor centre at each site. It's free and full of different activities ranging from scavanger hunts, short walks, activities to "fill up your senses", ranger interviews and word searches.

Once you have completed a certain number of tasks, depending on your age, you return with your book to the visitor centre.

You are then presented with a certificate and a Kiwi Ranger badge. Collect them all - each badge and booklet is individually designed for each site.

Who's behind Kiwi Ranger?

Mick Abbott and Carli Richter came up with the idea of Kiwi Ranger after taking part in similar programmes during an extended trip in North America with their young family.

The first Kiwi Ranger pilot sites were supported by the University of Otago and the Otago Institute of Design. More sites are being developed now. Stay tuned for one near you.
