Preliminary draft Wellington Conservation Management Strategy released

A preliminary draft Wellington Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) has been released to enable interested groups to view progress.

This non-statutory draft is the most comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the key conservation issues, values and priorities in the former Wellington Conservancy. It sets out aspirations for conservation and outlines the intended future direction for conservation work in the Wellington region of the conservancy, which has now been expanded to include Hawke's Bay.

Further work on the draft has been put on hold while the department reviews the role and content of these strategies, seeking to ensure national consistency. An extension to the current Wellington CMS has been granted in the meantime. The next draft will include Hawke’s Bay.
