Foliar Browse Index (FBI) manual: Revision survey

Survey closes: 31 March 2010

The Foliar Browse Index (FBI) is a ground-based assessment of plant indicator species designed to determine the impact of possums on forests and/or vegetation response to possum control.

For the revision of this manual we want to hear from anyone who has collected data following the methods outlined in the FBI manual, or have used FBI data.

This survey is your chance to make your views known and help ensure that any changes made to the FBI manual are warranted or make the method easier to understand and apply in the field.

How to submit

The survey will take 1 - 2 hours to complete. Download the survey and either email or post it back to Phil Knightbridge, coordinator of the review.

Background

The FBI was developed by Landcare Research for the Department of Conservation (DOC) in the 1990s. The recent development of a monitoring toolbox by DOC has identified a need to revise the FBI manual. The current manual for this method is:

Payton, I.J.; Pekelharing, C.J.; Frampton, C.M. 1999. Foliar Browse Index: A method for monitoring possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) damage to plant species and forest communities. Landcare Research, Lincoln.62 p. (PDF on the Landcare website, 1800K)
