Christchurch city - Canterbury CMS draft place

This draft place is about working with the hearts and minds of people living in, and passing through, Christchurch.

Christchurch is a gateway city to the South Island region. It's an arrival/exit point for international visitors to New Zealand and Antarctica.

Opawa School, Christchurch.
Schools like Opawa are important places for planting the seed of knowledge

As the largest South Island city, it forms the hub of our community of interest and recreating public. Christchurch is well placed to access a variety of natural environments for outdoor recreation.

A quality 'gateway' visitor centre is crucial to facilitating visitor use of public conservation lands but we are failing to deliver on this service.

Christchurch and its schools is a practical action site for implementing DOC's National Education Strategy 2010-2030.

Even though Christchurch has been shaken, its intrinsic values remain and its pathway to recovery has potential to focus on issues such as sustainability and backyard conservation.

  • What possibilities to do see for this draft 'place' that is focused on people rather than public conservation land?
