In consultation with the Canterbury Aoraki Conservation Board, we have come up with nine places for Canterbury draft CMS. Now we want to hear from you.
Canterbury has two national parks: Aoraki/Mt Cook and Arthur's Pass.
Braided rivers - with their wide gravel beds, numerous channels and highly variable flows - are a defining feature of Canterbury.
Banks Peninsula is nationally recognised for its unique biodiversity and landscape values; a network of pocket-sized remnant reserves provide habitat for birdlife and inspiration for restoration.
The coastal margin of Canterbury includes a number of key sites for conservation under a wide variety of land ownership.
Canterbury has seven conservation parks south of Arthur's Pass National Park, with their own distinctive values, most situated within the high country.
This draft place includes Lake Sumner Forest Park, Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve, Hanmer Forest Park and St James Conservation Area, plus several smaller reserves.
The high country basins place includes Waimakariri Basin, O Tu Wharekai and Mackenzie Basin.
The Foothill forests draft place addresses all the lowland and hill country reserves, conservation areas and forest remnants.
This draft place is about working with the hearts and minds of people living in, and passing through, Christchurch.
