Background

Red deer and helicopter, West Coast
The department has been consulting with existing WARO permit holders and stakeholders with regard to the expiry of the previous set of WARO permits.
Over time these WARO permits have been used for a range of activities involving aircraft and wild animals. The department now intends to clarify these activities by putting in place a new generation of concession documents for each specific activity to replace the old WARO concession permits.
Visit the National WARO concession permits page to view or apply for the new permits.
National WARO concession permit renewal process
A draft framework was drawn up to enable the department to begin talking with operators and stakeholders in order to seek feedback on the issues that had been raised during the term of the current permits and how the department could better manage the activities on public conservation land. The framework was sent to operators and stakeholders and meetings were held with representatives of these groups. Comments were invited on the proposed framework.
The department has now compiled these responses, undertaken an analysis of them and amended the framework and national WARO concession permit accordingly.
As the next step in the process the department asked operators and stakeholders alike to provide feedback on the proposed documents. This feedback contributed to the final documents and the national offer made to operators. Note: this consultation is now closed.
