Hawea Conservation Park proposal

Background information

A new 105,000 hectare conservation park is proposed for Otago. In the Lake Hawea, Dingle Burn and Hunter Valley catchments, the proposed park would be known as the Hawea Conservation Park.

A discussion document was prepared for stakeholders and public, as part of the consultation process. 

Park approval

The Minister of Conservation, the Hon Steve Chadwick, announced on 12 September 2007 that she had approved the formation of Hawea Conservation Park. It will be opened on a yet to be announced date in October.
