Background
The Department of Conservation proposes to review five policies/sections within the TNPMP that were introduced to manage impacts and/or reduce effects on the environment but due to increased knowledge and/or changing circumstances this is no longer working or necessary.
The five policies and/or sections include:
- Section 4.3.2.12 Policy 10 and Policy 11 - Mt Biking removal of restrictions on concessions and event management on specific tracks;
- Section 4.4.2.5 Policy 9 - Removal of the Transport Concession Limit for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (TAC);
- Section 4.4.2.5 Policy 10 - Removal of 04-05 Financial Returns to set TAC Limit;
- Section 5.2.11 - Additional Policies allowing Over-Snow Passenger-Service Transport Use within Ski Areas; and
- Section 6.1 Policy 14 - Removal of Sole Winter Transport Operator, Bruce Road.
A discussion document was released to the public in April 2010 for a 2 month period to seek feedback on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing Policies and Over-Snow Passenger-Service Transport section. Suggestions and comments were taken into account by the Department of Conservation and incorporated into the draft partial review. Submissions closed 4pm Friday 10 December 2010.
Persons and organisations are invited to make submissions on the proposed Tongariro National Park Management Plan Partial Review.
You can either complete your submission on the online form, print out the printable form (as shown below) or you can send in your own submission in a similar format to the address below.

If you request a change to proposed changes that are discussed in the information sheet we ask that you provide reasons for your views. This will help the hearing committee in their decision making role.
If you wish to speak at the hearing please indicate this in your submission. Hearings will take place in early 2011.
