Whangarei Harbour Marine Reserve

All marine life within a marine reserve is protected.

  • Fishing and the taking or disturbing of any marine life, including shellfish, seaweeds and sea urchin is illegal.
  • Taking any part of the seafloor, including rocks and shells, from the reserve, or to erect any structure is illegal.
  • Do not feed the fish - this disturbs their natural behaviour.
  • Boats or jet skis must not exceed five knots within 200 m of land or a dive flag and within 30 m of another vessel.
  • Please take your waste away with you.

These are offences under the Marine Reserves Act 1971 and offenders may be prosecuted.
