Map of New Zealand highlighting the Hawke's Bay region.

Te Angiangi Marine Reserve was established in August 1997. It is located on the Central Hawke's Bay coast, approximately 30 km east of Waipukurau and Waipawa. It covers an area of about 1.3 square nautical miles (446 hectares), extending one nautical mile offshore from mean high water mark between Blackhead and Aramoana beaches.

Alert

The reserve was severely impacted by flooding and subsequent slippage in March 2011. Unstable slips still cover much of the reserve, making access difficult and dangerous. Access along the beach remains impassable. The toilet and interpretation block in the middle of the reserve have disappeared completely, as have land-based marine reserve markers. Check the Hawke's Bay alerts page for updates.
