Outcomes

  • Pukenui is a fully functioning forest ecosystem capable of representing natural biodiversity
  • Culturally significant heritage sites and landscapes in the forest are acknowledged, respected and protected
  • The restoration inspires the community and visitors to undertake their own action
  • The results of an ongoing research programme are applied to enhance the management of the forest
  • Information, interpretation, education and concessions are available to help visitors understand, protect and appreciate the area
  • High quality facilities and services are located so visitors see and enjoy the area
  • Tangata whenua, neighbouring landowners and the community are actively involved in the guardianship (kaitiakitanga) and conservation of the forest supported by the Whangarei District Council, Department of Conservation and Northland Regional Council.
