The nationally endangered mohua are present at eight Operation Ark sites, with good population recovery recorded at the Landsborough, Dart-Caples and Catlins sites.
The kākāriki karaka is critically endangered. Now restricted to the Hawdon-Poulter and Hurunui sites, it has an estimated total population of 150-300.
At the Eglinton valley site, populations of both of New Zealand's two remaining species of bat have been growing over the last three years with possum, rat and stoat control.
At the Wangapeka/Fyfe, Oparara/Ugly and Arthur/Clinton/Cleddau river sites, numbers of the nationally endangered whio have increased from 16 individuals in the last three years to 49.
