You can help

What you can do

  • Ensure that your dog is locked up at night - be kiwi wise
  • Report any sightings of rare and threatend species to your local DOC office.
  • Follow the Environmental Care Code - leave only footprints, take only photos.
  • Ensure that your dog has avian aversion certification if hunting.

Getting involved

There are various ways to get involved in the Te Urewera Mainland Island Project. Volunteer for the day for a specific task, or join staff by staying at work huts and helping with day to day management.

Volunteers are usually required to have a high level of fitness, an ability to use a map and compass and strong observation and accurate data recording skills.
