Forces of nature defeated servicemen returned from World War One.  Visit the bridge they left behind in the “valley of abandoned dreams”.

Getting there

You can reach the Bridge to Nowhere by jet boating or canoeing down the Whanganui River from either Pipiriki or Whakahoro to the Mangapurua Landing. From there, it’s a gentle 40 minute walk to the bridge site. Alternatively you can do a three day tramp from Whakahoro to the north via the Kaiwhakauka and Mangapurua valleys.

Both valleys, including the bridge, form part of the 'Mountain to the Sea' adventure cycle route. The track is currently under construction and the Mangapurua Valley section is scheduled to be open by March 2010.
