Protect kūkupa, don't poach them - Kūkupa are the key to our forests' future
The Northland Conservation Board has just released an A3 colour poster highlighting the plight of kūkupa (New Zealand pigeon or kereru) as part of the Board's Save the Kūkupa campaign. The posters will be distributed around Northland through Board members and will be available to community groups/iwi/hapu.

Conservation Management Strategy for Northland operational
The New Zealand Conservation Authority has approved the Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) for Northland, which becomes operational on Monday, 29 September 2014. The CMS has been ten years in the making and the Northland Conservation Board welcomes the opportunity to monitor its implementation on behalf of the people of Te Taitokerau/Northland.

Northland Conservation Board supports rahui to protect kauri
In a hui held 15 July 2014, Te Uri o Hau decided to place a rahui (temporary ban) over their maunga (mountain) Pukekaroro and Pukeareinga to prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease (PTA).

A team of 50 people including students and teachers from Taipa Area School planted around 1000 native trees and shrubs at Kate's Bush, near Taipa as part of Arbor Day celebrations on 5 June 2014.

Funding available for Northland community conservation projects
The Northland Conservation Board welcomes the new Community Conservation Partnership Fund announced by Conservation Minister Dr Nick Smith on 30 March 2014. The $26 million fund will provide a much-needed boost to conservation projects carried out by community organisations over the next four years.

Northland conservation planning about to get stamp of approval
At its meeting on 8 November 2013, the Northland Conservation Board recommended the approval of the Department of Conservation's (DOC) new Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) for Northland 2013 – 2023. Representatives from the Board and DOC will present the CMS to the New Zealand Conservation Authority (NZCA) on 11 December 2013 for consideration and approval.
