The Wellington Hawke's Bay area contains diverse landforms, indigenous plants and wildlife, and an extensive varied coastline. There are five forest parks and hundreds of reserves, protecting wetlands, wildlife, forest remnants, coastal, marine and historic sites.
You can enjoy backcountry experiences close to urban areas, see endangered wildlife and ecological restoration in progress with community involvement, and visit historic sites associated with early Māori habitation, government, sawmilling, transport, whaling, farming, defence, recreation, and nature conservation.
